Introduction:
Chronic diseases are among the leading causes of death globally, including in many countries. These diseases not only lead to potential mortality but also affect the quality of life of individuals suffering from them. In this discussion, we will focus on the top two chronic diseases seen in adults in my area.
Answer:
According to the World Health Organization, the top two chronic diseases seen in adults worldwide are heart disease and stroke. Some of the common risk factors for these chronic diseases include a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity. In my area, the situation is not different, and heart disease and stroke are also prevalent.
In a study conducted by the American Heart Association in 2018, cardiovascular disease, which includes heart disease and stroke, was reported to be responsible for 35% of all deaths in America. This indicates that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the country. The study also identified several risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, such as high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes. In my area, we have also noticed a similar pattern, with cardiovascular disease being responsible for a significant number of deaths.
Another chronic disease that is prevalent in my area is diabetes. Diabetes is a condition that occurs when the body’s ability to produce or use insulin efficiently is impaired. According to the American Diabetes Association, approximately 34.2 million people in America, which translates to 10.5% of the population, have diabetes. Similarly, in my area, the prevalence of diabetes is also high.
In conclusion, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes are the top two chronic diseases seen in adults in my area. These chronic diseases have significant impacts on individuals’ quality of life and the healthcare system. By understanding the risk factors associated with these diseases, individuals can take preventative measures to avoid and manage them. As medical professionals, we must continue to educate and inform our patients about these chronic diseases and how to avoid them.
