FU Reflection on Clinical Hours with The Patient Project

Overview

Review the Discussion Guidelines in the Syllabus before starting this assignment.

You have been reading about how to lead quality improvement projects and work with interprofessional teams. In this discussion, you will have the opportunity to use two tools that will help you to glean a better perspective when making a policy change in the workplace. The first tool, the Readiness for Change survey, would be one way to assess how open the staff might be to embracing a new QI project. It considers the levels of understanding, support, unit culture and interprofessional teamwork. The second tool, the Change Concepts Worksheet, provides you with some brainstorming strategies for implementing a change on your unit.

Introduction:
As a medical professor in charge of creating college assignments and answers for medical college students, it is important to prepare future healthcare professionals with the skills and tools necessary to lead quality improvement projects and work effectively with interprofessional teams. In this discussion, we will be exploring two tools, the Readiness for Change survey and the Change Concepts Worksheet, which will help students gain a better perspective when making a policy change in the workplace.

Answer to Question 1:
Upon completion of the Readiness for Change survey, the overall results indicated that the staff is open to embracing a new Quality Improvement (QI) project, with a score of 48 out of 60. The highest score was in the area of “support for change” with a score of 13 out of 15, indicating that the staff is motivated and encouraged to embrace change. The areas of opportunity are understanding QI principles and interprofessional teamwork, with scores of 10 and 9 out of 15, respectively. This insight is valuable for the Signature Assignment project as it highlights areas that require more support and attention as the project unfolds.

Answer to Question 2:
The Change Concepts Worksheet provides several strategies for the implementation of a change, including building a culture of teamwork, system redesign, creating buy-in, and ensuring sustainability. Building a culture of teamwork involves fostering open communication, creating safe spaces for sharing concerns, and promoting a sense of belonging among team members. System redesign might involve streamlining processes or developing new workflows to promote efficiency. Creating buy-in could involve engaging stakeholders in the process and highlighting the benefits of the change. Finally, ensuring sustainability requires creating metrics to track progress and continually assessing outcomes to ensure the change is sustained.

In conclusion, the Readiness for Change survey and the Change Concepts Worksheet are two important tools that enable healthcare professionals to lead a successful QI project and work effectively with teams. It is essential to prepare future professionals with these skills and tools, so they can be ready to embrace change and lead the healthcare industry towards better outcomes.
