World View Analysis and Personal Inventory: explain the Christian perspective of the nature of spirituality and ethics in contrast to the perspective of postmodern relativism within health care.

During this paper, please remember that I am a Christian and have already created posts mentioning my belief. So my answers must flow with this belief. Here is my posting so you have some insight on my beliefs:

Q: What would spirituality be according to your own worldview? How do you believe that your conception of spirituality would influence the way in which you care for patients?

A:”Spirituality is felt in your soul and in your spirit. I believe spirituality is the way you act and make decisions based on what you feel is the right thing to do. I was raised Christian and have continued with this faith all throughout my life. No, I am not the “perfect” role model but I believe there is a God who will judge my thoughts and my actions, so I practice benevolence and give all glory to him. If you ask me, there is a right and there is a wrong. The tricky decisions are when you run into an ethical dilemma; in which I base my decision with help from the 10 commandments.

My conception of spirituality allows me to treat my patients in a holistic manner. I strive to do what is best for my patients. I am not selfish in the way that I will purposely leave my patient unchanged or without timely medication for selfish rewards such as leaving home on time. This is because my spirituality will not allow me to only think of myself. As a nurse I have a duty to advocate for my patient and my worldview is that we should always support one another and lend a hand when we are able to do so. I believe you get in return what you put out into the world. The way I care for my patients is how I would want my nurse to care for me.”

  3. In 750-1,000 words, answer each of the worldview questions according to your own personal perspective and worldview: (a) What is ultimate reality? (b) What is the nature of the universe? (c) What is a human being? (d) What is knowledge? (e) What is your basis of ethics? (f) What is the purpose of your existence?

Remember to support your reflection with the topic study materials.

Introduction:
Spirituality and ethics play vital roles in healthcare. Understanding the different perspectives on these topics is essential for medical professionals, as it can greatly influence the way they care for patients. This paper will discuss the Christian perspective of spirituality and ethics in contrast to postmodern relativism within healthcare. It will also examine scientism and two of the main arguments against it. Finally, it will answer six worldview questions based on the writer’s personal perspective.

1. In the Christian perspective, spirituality is deeply rooted in the belief in God and the presence of a soul. It encompasses a holistic view of a person, recognizing the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of an individual. Christian ethics is based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Bible, emphasizing love, compassion, and selflessness. It places importance on preserving the dignity of human life and treating others with respect and kindness. On the other hand, postmodern relativism rejects absolute truth and morality, believing that all perspectives and ideas are equally valid. This perspective can lead to moral relativism, where healthcare decisions could be based on personal preference rather than objective standards, potentially compromising patient care.

2. Scientism is the belief that scientific knowledge is the only reliable source of truth. It considers scientific methods as the only means to understand reality and asserts that any beliefs that cannot be tested empirically are not valid. Two arguments against scientism are the limits of science and the role of personal experience. Science has limitations and cannot explain everything, leaving gaps in knowledge that can only be filled by other means, such as philosophy or spirituality. Additionally, personal experience plays an important role in understanding reality, which could be influenced by beliefs that are not based on empirical evidence.

3. a) From the writer’s perspective, ultimate reality is God, who created the universe and everything in it.
b) The nature of the universe is complex and diverse, created by God and reflects His glory.
c) A human being is a unique creation of God, made in His image, with levels of physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.
d) Knowledge is obtained through various means, including personal experience, education, and a willingness to learn.
e) Ethics are based on the teachings of the Bible, influenced by love, compassion, and selflessness.
f) The purpose of existence is to glorify God and make a positive impact in the world by helping and serving others.

In conclusion, understanding spirituality, ethics, and worldview is essential for medical professionals to provide holistic and compassionate care for their patients. Personal beliefs can strongly influence healthcare decisions, and it is crucial to recognize and balance differing perspectives among patients and healthcare providers.
