Develop and submit a personal leadership philosophy that reflects what you think are characteristics of a good leader. Use the scholarly resources on leadership you selected to support your philosophy statement. Your personal leadership philosophy should include the following:

  • A description of your core values
  • A personal mission/vision statement
  • An analysis of your CliftonStrengths Assessment summarizing the results of your profile
  • A description of two key behaviors that you wish to strengthen
  • A development plan that explains how you plan to improve upon the two key behaviors you selected and an explanation of how you plan to achieve your personal vision. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Be sure to incorporate your colleagues’ feedback on your CliftonStrengths Assessment from this Module’s Discussion 2.

Introduction:

A good leader is one who possesses certain key characteristics that distinguish them from the rest. As a medical professor accountable for creating assignments and evaluating student performance, I believe that a great leader is one who understands the significance of empathy, responsibility, strategic thinking, and achievement. In line with this, my personal leadership philosophy highlights my core values, mission statement, CliftonStrengths Assessment, behaviors, and development plan.

Answer:

My core values are empathy and responsibility. Empathy requires that I work with others, especially patients, with understanding and insight into their needs and emotions. It makes me a more compassionate leader who is aware of other people’s situations and takes them into account when making decisions. Responsibility, on the other hand, is about being accountable and dependable. Good leaders should take up responsibilities and ensure they keep their promises, facilitate growth and development in their colleagues and subordinates, and overall, make decisions that benefit the organization and the people they serve.

My mission statement is to use my leadership skills to inspire my subordinates, students, and colleagues towards achieving their potential and promoting a healthcare environment that is inclusive, innovative, and accountable.

After taking the CliftonStrengths Assessment, I discovered that I possessed five significant strengths of strategic thinking, learner, achiever, responsibility, and input. These characteristics are crucial to my leadership style as they help me design careful plans, learn new skills, work tirelessly to achieve my goals, hold myself and others accountable, and gather information.

Two essential behaviors that I would like to strengthen are strategic and achiever. Strategic behavior is crucial because as a leader, one has to anticipate future changes, spot opportunities, and design plans to achieve them. Achiever behavior is important as it helps me focus on results, maintain effort and momentum, and celebrate progress.

To improve these behaviors, I plan to enroll in courses that enhance my knowledge on strategic thinking, design practical goals and deadlines for my projects and make use of project management software, hold myself accountable and remind myself of my progress regularly.

In conclusion, my personal leadership philosophy is centered around empathy, responsibility, strategic thinking, and achievement. By understanding my core values, my CliftonStrengths Assessment, and behaviors, I can create a development plan that improves my leadership qualities and promotes a healthy healthcare environment.
