Explain how seeing the positions and evidence of others changed or reinforced your position.

Introduction: In medical education, understanding ethical decision-making models is crucial for students. This assignment requires students to reflect on their Learning Team activity and summarize the decision-making model employed and the process used to arrive at their position. Additionally, students must review resources from the Week 3 Electronic Reserve Readings and explain each person’s position and evidence.

To arrive at our team position, we employed the ethical decision-making model outlined in the “Integrated Ethical Decision-Making Model for Nurses” resource. This model involves the following steps: recognition of the ethical issue, gathering information, clarification of values, identification of options, selecting the best option, and implementation and evaluation of the decision. Our team recognized the ethical issue presented and gathered information from credible sources such as peer-reviewed journal articles and scholarly databases.

Each member of our team presented their position on the issue along with reasons and evidence to support it. We learned that we had different perspectives on the issue based on our personal values, experiences, and cultural backgrounds. However, we respected each other’s opinions and actively listened to understand their reasoning.

Understanding the positions and evidence presented by others changed and reinforced our position by helping us see the issue from various perspectives. By considering various viewpoints, we were able to arrive at a well-informed decision that took into account the diverse viewpoints and ethical considerations.

In conclusion, this assignment provides students with an opportunity to reflect on the decision-making model employed and the process used to arrive at their position. It also encourages students to consider different perspectives and evidence to create a well-informed decision. By understanding ethical decision-making models and practicing them, medical students can become better informed, compassionate, and ethical healthcare professionals.
