To document your leadership experiences, team collaboration, and learning, you will complete a series of weekly journal entries that will be used as the basis for the week 6 benchmark assignment. For each entry, you will write a 250-word reflective response related to the prompt provided. Prompts will be related to the topic content and will focus on your experiences related to key topic objectives. 

Reflect on the work your group did this week and think about what you have learned about your personal leadership style and traits and the tenets of servant leadership. In a 250-word reflection, discuss the following:

  • Discuss what you learned about yourself as a leader by completing the leadership assessments.
  • Explain how knowledge of your personal leadership style and traits allowed you to collaborate effectively as a member of your CLC team.
  • Reflect on the tenets of servant leadership that you experienced while interacting with your CLC group this week and provide specific examples of how servant leadership was exemplified.

Introduction: In this assignment, we reflect on the topics of leadership styles and traits, as well as team collaboration. We will be answering three questions related to our personal leadership experiences, and how learning about our own leadership style and traits allowed for effective collaboration within our CLC team. The Mind Tools content team’s emotional intelligence assessment, the leadership motivation assessment, and the leadership style assessment will be used to prepare our responses. Additionally, we will reflect on the principles of servant leadership and apply specific examples from our interactions with our CLC group.

1. By completing the leadership assessments, I was able to identify my own strengths and areas for improvement in leadership. For example, the emotional intelligence assessment shed light on my ability to have good relationships with others, but also highlighted that I may struggle with focusing on my own needs. This awareness allows me to find ways to further develop my emotional intelligence. Furthermore, the leadership motivation assessment showed my strong motivation to lead, which will greatly impact my future career goals. The leadership style assessment exposed my tendency towards a democratic or participative leadership style. While this style may take more time, it can build trust and engagement with the team. Understanding my own leadership traits empowers me to lead more effectively and cohesively with my team.

2. Knowledge of my personal leadership style and traits allowed me to adapt and collaborate effectively within my CLC team. The participative leadership style that I lean towards allows for team members to be actively involved in decision-making and problem-solving. This enabled my team members to feel a sense of ownership and commitment to our group’s work. Additionally, self-awareness of my emotions and how they may impact my interactions with others allowed me to communicate more effectively and build stronger relationships with my fellow team members.

3. Throughout my interactions with my CLC group, I have experienced several tenets of servant leadership. One example is the principle of listening actively. By genuinely listening to each other’s perspectives and concerns, our group was able to work more cohesively towards a common goal. Another example is the principle of empathy, where we were able to understand and be sensitive to each other’s emotions and experiences. Lastly, our group embodied the principle of stewardship by ensuring that everyone’s voices were heard and that we were all contributing equally to the team’s work. These experiences have shown me the importance of servant leadership in fostering a positive and effective group dynamic.
