As a nurse, it is important to educate clients on the benefits of physical activity and to recommend specific activities such as brisk walking, running, swimming, cycling, or resistance training. The amount of exercise recommended should be at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise per week, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity exercise per week. To gain cooperation from the client, a motivational interviewing approach could be used, whereby the nurse assesses the client’s readiness to change and then helps the client set realistic goals for physical activity.
